~ Afghans or blankets ~

I've crocheted countless afghans - sometimes I call them blankets.  I have no idea why.  I was thinking that maybe it was because of their size - medium ones are afghans, larger ones are blankets.  But I refer to baby ones as blankets most of the time though.  What is your preference?  :)

Here's an updated picture of my squircle blanket.  I added 2 more rows.

  1. Baby blankets, and afghans and throws. I wonder if there is a good definition for what is what. Hmmm, time to google. :)

  2. I love crocheting afghans because if you don't match the gauge, who's to know?

  3. Well, the way I've always seen it, anything crocheted is an afghan. If it's been made with fabric(s), it's a quilt... And all other weaves and blends are blankets! Call me biased, but I think afghans are definitely the very BEST!

  4. In general, if they are made from yarn...crocheted or knitted...I usually call them an afghan. I know a lot of people who call them blankets though. :)

  5. I'd be curious to find out also. I think I started calling them afghans because that's what a lot of the pattern books call them, but I've also noticed people calling them blankets....so I really don't know...Hope you are having a good Friday Debi. :-)

  6. I've always called them blankets regardless of size. The word afghan just reminds me of the dog breed afghan hound - I think that was the type of dog Barbie had wasn't it if memory serves me right?

  7. I love them either way but I use the term "blanket" sometimes because it seems to be a more updated term for today's crochet. Cute blog!

I just call 'em whatever pops in my head. I never really understood the difference myself. :o)

  9. I use those words interchangeably. I'm like you...sometimes they're a blanket and sometimes an afghan.

Love your squircle with more rows added. It's pretty. The bigger the better!

  12. I usually say afghans - even baby afghans - because to me blanket implies a simpler, non-crocheted, item, but it's not true. I think the word can be used interchangeable.

Your afghan is very pretty. I just love all those cheerful colors!
