~ denim granny bag ~

~~ I got the idea to crochet this bag from Haken en meer ~~

Materials:

- 4-ply worsted weight yarn: 
   - 5 oz. Vanna's Choice denim mist
   - 2 oz. RHSS soft white
- L hook
- purse handles (purchased from Joann Fabrics)

Size:  approximately 9" x 12"

Notes: 
- do not join rnds unless instructed to do so - mark 1st st with a st marker
- I crochet tight, so you may want to adjust the size of your hook.

Directions:

Rnd 1: Working with 2 strands Vanna's Choice denim mist held together, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.

Rnd 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around.

Rnd 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around.

Rnd 5: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around.

Rnd 6: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) around.

Rnd 7: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc) around.

Rnd 8: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc) around.

Rnd 9: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc) around.

Rnd 10: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc) around.

Rnd 11: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc) around.

Rnds 14 - 17:  Sc in each sc around.  At end of Rnd 17, join with a sl st to 1st sc, end off.

Rnd 18:  Working with 1 strand VC denim mist and 1 strand RHSS soft white, join with a sl st to 1st sc.  (ch 3, 2 dc) in 1st sc, ch 1.  *skip next 3 sc, 3 dc in next sc, ch 1.  Repeat from * 8 more times.  Skip next 2 sc.  3 dc in next sc, ch 1, *skip next 3 sc, 3 dc in next sc, ch 1.  Repeat from * 9 more times.  Skip next 2 sc, join with a sl st to top of ch 3.

Rnds 19 - 25:  Sl st over to ch-1 space, (ch 3, 2 dc) in same space, ch 1.  *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to top of ch 3.

Rnd 26:  Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 space around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc, end off.

~ baby blankie #10 ~

I crocheted this baby blankie with all different yarns for the fiori esagono's - the green border is Red Heart Soft - color is guacamole.  I used the green to try to make it look like flowers in the grass, but I'm not too sure on that.  This little blankie measures 29" side to side.  :)

~ baby blankie #9 ~

Finished this little baby blankie last night.  I used the recycled yarn I told ya'll about in this post .  For the blankie, I started out with a 'fiori esagano' and added a (dc, ch 1, skip next dc) rnd.  Then I just repeated the 3 solid dc rnds with the mesh rnd.  It measures 27" side to side.  :)

**A thought on recycling yarn:

You may remember when I bought the scarf at the thrift store to recycle the variegated pink yarn. The scarf looked brand new - never worn or washed. Well - the yarn itself wasn't all that nice to work with - it must of been an old Sayelle. Definitely a difference in the quality from the yarns of today - kind of scratchy with thin spots. I'm not too sure that I will give this little blankie to the hospital - I might keep it for a lapghan. The little bit of scratchy-ness won't bother me.  I believe I'll check out the yarn a little better next time before buying something to recycle.

I finished this purse yesterday.  I crocheted it with 1 strand of RHSS 'melonberry' and 2 strands Lion Brand Baby Soft 'bubble gum' with an L hook.  If I remember correctly, I bought the handles from Joann Fabrics.  I'm not too sure about the bow - do you think it's too much?  :)

~ crochet time management ~

Nicole from Must be Destiny... left a nice comment for me about my baby blankie #8.  She suggested that I write a post about time management since I seem to crochet alot.  Well - it's really nothing that I've been able to figure out - it just all comes with time.

It all started back in 1977 or 1978 - my sister Teri taught me how to do the granny square.  Of course, I didn't stick with crocheting then - I was in High School and had other things to do.  But around 1982 when I was pregnant with my daughter, a friend of my husband refreshed my memory of how to crochet.  I crocheted a few baby blankies for her but when she was born all of that went out the window.  I think I was able to crochet only when she slept.  Not alot got done.  I then started working part-time for a car dealership that my husband worked at - still not alot of crochet was getting done.  My next job was working full-time for an attorney.  The only time to crochet was at night after E's bedtime - I always tried to squeeze in a couple hours - and I was always tired the next morning.  

Fast forward to 1989 when I was pregnant with my son.  I decided to quit working and stay home with the kids.  I was very happy.  I thought I would have all the time in the world.  Wrong.  My son did not sleep for the first 18 months of his life.  If I was able to pick up my crochet work, it was only for a few stitches.  Between taking care of my kids, the house and always making sure everyone was fed, I was just too exhausted to do anything else.  

As my children grew, I was able to find more and more crochet time.  It's good now.  

I work part-time at a (different) car dealership and I always get to work about 10-15 minutes early.  I sit in my car and crochet a granny square or hexagon.  Tuesday thru Friday I also pick up my youngest grandson J from the school bus and watch him until his Dad or Mom gets home from work.  While waiting for his bus, I crochet a granny square or hexagon.  Sometimes I can get 3 or 4 squares or hexagons done in a day.  After I'm done watching J, my time is mine.  I can crochet for a little while until it's dinner time.  I cook dinner, clean up, get showered for the next day, plop down on the couch and crochet some more.  It's great. 

So in conclusion - here are my crochet time management tips:

1.  wait until your children are grown
 - and -
2.  always carry a crochet bag

~ baby blankie #8 ~

Here's blankie #8 - crocheted mostly with RHSS but there is also Bernat, Vanna's, Impeccable and ILTY!.  The squares were crocheted while sitting in my car before work and while waiting for J's school bus.  :)

~ arghhh... ~

Reminiscent of Sharon from Sharon's Eclectic Retreat - I went to the Hair Cuttery yesterday to get a haircut.  Good God Almighty - that girl cut the heck out of my hair.  Why don't they listen when you tell them what you want done?  I made myself perfectly clear - a layer cut about 4 inches long all around.  She cut the top about 3 inches long and the rest is about 1 inch long.  By the time I could see what she was doing, it was too late.  My son says it looks like a punk rocker haircut.  Great - a 49 year old punk rocker.  I would crochet myself a head scarf but my husband doesn't like those - so I guess I will be wearing a headband for the next few weeks until it grows out a little.  :(

~ a mohawk hat & a blankie ~

I crocheted this mohawk hat for my great-nephew.  The colors are blue and gold for the West Virginia Mountaineers (I think that's what it is).  I hope he likes it.  :)

And here is a fleece 'dly's baby blankie'.  All I did was snip the edges about an inch in with a very sharp pair of scissors.  Very quick and easy.  :)

Materials:
- 4-ply ww acrylic
   - yellow
   - variegated
- I hook

Size:  approximately 5"

Notes:
- the 2 chains at beginning of Rnd 1 does not count as a dc
- I crochet tight, so you may want to adjust the size of your crochet hook

Directions:

Rnd 1:  With yellow, ch 3, 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook.  Join with a sl st to 1st dc.  (12 dc)

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 2.  *sc in next sc, ch 2.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  End off.

Rnd 3:  Join variegated with a sl st to any ch-2 space.  (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, ch 1, skip next ch-2 space.  *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space, ch 1, skip next ch-2 space.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 3.

Rnd 4:  Ch 3, dc in each dc and ch-1 space around with (dc, ch 2, dc) in each corner space.  Join as before.
