My husband and I came home from being out and about. He headed for the big computer, I headed for my laptop, and my son was already on his laptop. We also have another old computer that my husband had to start up to retrieve some of his bookmarks. I looked around and said "Jeez - this is ridiculous. What in the world did we do before we had computers?" My son Bobby looked at me and said "push hoops around with a stick." He's so funny. :)

Really, what did we do? We got our first computer probably back in 89 or 90 when I was in the navy so I could do some of my non classified work at home and not pay a babysitter overtime when I otherwise would have had to stay late. Then I'd work around kids, fixing dinner and getting ready to start all over the next day. Before that, the kids were really little and demanded eagle-eyed supervision. Even before then, I think I was playing jacks or something ;) Now, kids are grown and gone and computer has become a habit tied only with crocheting.
ReplyDeleteI agree with hubby, LOL... What did we do, ?? I think we actually wrote letters to each other , it could take a week or so to reach the addy, depending on where you lived ..
ReplyDeletehave a great crafty weekend :))
Very funny kid...quick witted. I used to read all the letters in crochet world magazine and respond to the via snail mail..
ReplyDeleteI got my first computer about a year after both of my kids were in college. I am now on my second one. I didn't know diddly squat and was afraid I would hit the wrong key and delete stuff. I guess before the pc came along I sat and watched too much tv, or maybe I was cleaning my house....I just know I love all the info one can get on here, and when I need to take it to the repair shop I am nuts, like a junkie going through withdrawal. I have so many bookmarks I would never be able to follow-up on them all, but they are at my fingertips if I want to go back and check stuff out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Debi!!
Susanne :)
That is funny. My kids laptop just broke the other week, and believe me, being down to 2 computers in a 4 person homeschool family is hard. :)
ReplyDeletetv watching and crocheting...we're such an exciting couple
ReplyDeleteHi Debby.. Well, I am not owning up to a hoop and stick LOl.. But I do remember spinning tops that we coloured with chalk and many happy times spent with them and with friends playing on the sidewalk. Hmm, does that make me sound really old?? Technology is a wonderful thing and I have to own up to two computers of which I am the sole user, but personal interactions seem to take place online nowadays and when I think how much time I spend on my comp instead of crocheting or visiting friends, well. what can I say.. What we gain in one way is lost in others but I still would not be without them.... Have a good weekend... :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way Deb, love that ripple... Do you have the pattern and would you be willing to share it?? I have just learned to work the ripple stitch but yours looks a little different and i would love to try it.. :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina. The link to the round ripple pattern is listed over on the right sidebar. It's a favorite pattern. :)
DeleteI had the same conversation the other day with my ex boss. Cell phones, smart phones, tablets and laptops. 15 years ago we had no idea we'd be so dependent on all this stuff. She had forgotten her cell phone at home and was lost without it.
ReplyDeleteI think I recall playing outside and riding my bike before I had a computer. I think. Maybe? Hm....
ReplyDelete:D That's funny! I was away most all day, and after I got the groceries put away tonight, guess what's the first thing I did. Yep, get on my computer. :D
ReplyDeletehahaha....and I've just had a Balckberry bought me too....a need for balance may be lol
ReplyDeleteFunny son hey! x

ReplyDeleteYeah, very funny!
ReplyDeleteGreat blanket again, Debi, and really a lovely work on that plastic canvas!
