~ new purse & my hooks ~

Finished up this bag yesterday - I crocheted it with a 2-ply bulky yarn that I had bought at Michaels.  It was in a mill-ends bag, so I don't know what brand it was.

It's very quick and easy to do - all you need is:
* 6 oz. 2-ply bulky acrylic yarn
* a pair of 7" plastic rings (I bought mine from Ebay)
* two 22" pieces of ribbon
* an 'L' hook

Sc around 1 ring 41 times.  Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat for 32 rows.  At the end of the 32nd row, end off.

Repeat for other ring.

Put wrong sides together and starting at the 8th row on the right side and matching up stitches, whipstitch together all the way around till you get to the 8th row on the left side.  End off.

Weave 1 ribbon through the stitches of the 9th row on the front.
Weave 1 ribbon through the stitches of the 9th row on the back.
Tie the ends into a bow.

And there you go - a new purse to carry on your trips to the craft store.  :)

I've shown ya'll my crochet handle hook collection before (the ones I've made) - but every good crocheter worth her weight in yarn always has a good collection of all kinds of hooks.  Here's mine:

Pretty cool, huh?

  1. How come all your hooks are so wonderfully colored and groovy? I'm so jealous :D Most of my hooks are yellow/brown, bamboo or even worse, metal...

  3. For some reason a lot of photos being posted on blogs I am not able to see. I have an "x" in the spot of where the photo should be. I have tried everything to correct this but to no avail. So I am sure the bag is awesome, I just can't see it

    I also have a collection of hooks. It's funny how complete they make me feel even though I've rarely used any. I have my favorites and the others are simply there, in the background of my crochet life.

    1. Thanks. The small pink and black hook is just pony beads slipped on - the last heart bead is glued so they don't come off. I only used the hook once so far and it felt ok. :)

  18. Love the ones that you brightened up with the poly handles. My very favorite hooks are Bernat and I have 2 of the same set that come in a zippered case. I have 2 sets because years ago I bought my mother a set and awhile back she gave me all of her yarn and the hooks. I even got some knitting needles out of that deal. Kinda makes me sad though because she is an excellent knitter and she taught me both knitting and crochet. have been wanting to make a bag but still doing baby blankets. Have a great weekend.
