~ dishcloths and baby hats ~

Good morning friends.  As ya'll know, my sister Teri passed away last month of a heart attack.  Well, last Saturday morning my sister Laura called to tell me that a life-long friend had passed away - also from a heart attack.  His name was Andrew and he was only 47.  It's been a sad week.

In loving memory of Andrew Whittlesey

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After what happened with Teri, I went to the doctor for a check up (I haven't been in ages) - they took an EKG of my heart and found that I have a slight irregularity.  I have to go back and take a stress test in a couple of weeks.  The dr. didn't seem too worried about it, so for now, I'm not going to be either.
I guess the reason I'm telling ya'll this is because I want everyone to take care of yourselves.  Schedule that doctor appointment and get yourself checked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I saw a post on 'Teacup Lane' where she had crocheted a couple star dishcloths.  I followed her link (thank you Sandy) to get the pattern and crocheted a couple of them for my sister Julie.

I also crocheted a few more baby hats.  I made sure to make some for the boys this time.

Thanks for dropping by ladies - enjoy your day.  :)

  12. Hi Debi, That is a very good decision you have taken, to get yourself checked. I am sure everything will be normal on your next visit. My recent hospital stint made me realise that it is only good health that can make our life happy.
    Take care. Love and hugs

  14. I wish you the best and your doctor take care of you. You have to pay attention to the doctor and if you have to make a therapy, then go ahead and do not leave until later. I feel much the death of your friend and I understand your sadness. Continue knitting and doing crochet as this helps us and makes us happy. Lovely hats! Kisses!

  15. That's so sad to hear that you've lost another friend...

    I think it's good that you had a check-up, and I hope they'll find out where this irregularity comes from and what they can do about it. Some years ago, the doctors found and irregular pattern in John's heartbeat (by chance), and it turned out he has something rare called "Brugada Syndrome". People with this pattern are more likely to experience ventricular fibrillation. When this happens, the heart can't pump enough oxygen to the brain and most people die when they're not re-animated in time. So, after the diagnose they implanted an intern defibrillator into John's chest - there never was an incident before or after, but we're so relieved that he's protected, because we just know that he has this Syndrome and that this ventricular fibrillation could happen any time, without warning.
    I don't want to scare you or your readers, I've just read a lot about heart issues back then, and I just want to say to all of you: go to the doctors, have your check-ups and take care of yourselves! If you got the chance to learn how to operate an external defibrillator, please do it! They are stationed in lots of public places and it is essential that people feel responsible to help, if they notice a stranger passing out!

    All the best to you!

    and PS: lovely baby hats, just as usual! :)

  16. My condolences on the death of your friend, Debi. Just when you think things can't get worse, eh? So sensible to visit the doctor to get a check up - I hope it's good news when you go for your test. x

  17. So sorry to hear your sad news. It's so easy to take our health for granted that we overlook our check ups.

    Sending you some hugs from across the pond x

  19. I know the pain of losing a sibling. Life isn't the same. And you miss him/her so much never thinking you would live on without their presence in your life. I'm also getting at that age where friends are dying too. Glad you are looking to your own health.
    I noticed the Little Star Dishcloth on your blog and then imagine my surprise when you mentioned seeing the pattern on my blog Teacup Lane! Isn't it great we can share free patterns on the internet? I love the videos on YouTube too. Keep on hooking Debi!

  26. It's always so shocking to hear of someone so young die so suddenly of a heart attack. I'll be 47 in one month. My dad had bypass surgery when he was 45 and always told me check my cholesterol and take care of my health. It wasn't until I was 39 and overweight that I literally took that to heart and made necessary lifestyle changes. I do go to the doctor every year and have had complete blood workups. So far so good. I do hope your little irregularity is nothing to be concerned about. Those dishcloths are great! and cute hats, too. Wishing you a great day. Tammy

  28. Hope you are doing OK. I've missed you. I have a yearly checkup with my GYN/OB every year but with no health insurance now, I will have to start saving. I believe in yearly checkups including my eyes.

  29. Wow...so sorry to hear about your friend Debi. A guy I know here just passed away last night from a massive heart attack. And a guy that rides was killed Sunday afternoon...they don't know why he wrecked but I'm wondering if it wasn't his heart. He was a big guy. I hate it, ya know? The older we get the more people around us are leaving. I've been needing to get my heart checked out. There is a test the doc wants to do but it's not covered under my insurance. I am a lot like my dad and he had a pacemaker. I'm aiming at getting that taken care of asap. I love your baby hats...they're adorable! Take care Debi...hope the rest of your week is awesome! xoxo
