Two things that make me smile - the elderly/senior citizen edition:
* Vince and I were leaving Target and as we're walking through the parking lot to our car, I could hear 3 young men walking up behind us. One of the young men was rapping a song and as we know, most rap songs have cuss words in them. It didn't bother me - I've heard it all - but then one of the other young men says to his friend "Man - why you gotta be cursing? Don't you see that elderly lady in front of you?" (I'm laughing right now just typing this) What!? Elderly lady!? Oh my God. I turned around to see if he was actually referring to me, and yes, it's me - all three young men smiled at me. What could I do? I smiled back.
What I'd like to know is how that young man came to the conclusion that I was elderly. Vince told me it's because my hair has a lot of grey in it. What? No. My hair is blonde. I've really got to start hitting the 'Sun In' bottle a little bit more.
* Saturday night we were out again and decided to go to the 'Old Country Buffet' for dinner. Everything's fine - we pay for our dinner and choose a table. As we're sitting there, I looked at the receipt and on it is '2 sen din'. What the!? Again!? The young man at the counter charged us for '2 senior dinners'. Arghh! Good God Almighty! Oh well - at least we got a discount. :)
p.s. Vince is 52 and I am 51 - just when did this become elderly/senior citizen?

Crocheted some more little baby hats. I love making the little cupcake ones - they're so quick and easy. I should make more hats for the baby boys though - right now they're losing out.
Thanks for dropping by ladies - I hope ya'll have a good day. :)

Ha! Glad you can have a sense of humor about it. Kind of sweet of the boys really. :)
ReplyDeleteThis actually made me laugh out loud today. :) I needed that so thank you. I am 47. I don't know how old you are but I can totally relate to this experience. The "me" I am in my head is apparently not the "me" that presents to the rest of the world either, lol. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThose baby hats are cute Debi! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL!! that is so funny..I got my first "senior" discount shortly before Christmas..we were having breakfast at IHOP and we saw that we were given the senior discount..now I am 55 and that is when they give the discount, my husband however is only 43!! His head is silver/gray..beard is silver, mine isn't so I blame him. He gets the discount everywhere!!! No what the world sees is not who we feel we are...I don't feel old. Love those baby hats!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute hats Debi. Funny stories, but nice that at both places the "boys" were trying to be respectful. :-) I have all sorts of gray coming in and it really shows up in my dark hair. Hope you have a great day! Heather
ReplyDeleteOh how funny...hats off to you for being a good sport. I think maybe that young man was embarrassed by his friends choice of words when adults are around...good for him. The hats are darling!
ReplyDeleteShari
Poor you! Lol! But I can tell you that it hurts also when people are offering there seat in the train and that has already happened to me TWO YEARS ago! Then I was 42!
ReplyDeleteThe hats are so lovely!
So funny Debbi, I think young people think anyone over 40 as elderly haha wait till they get there themselves. Such cute hat's I know what you mean the little girls always seem to win out, I'm making a little boys jacket and hat right now to compensate :)
ReplyDeleteHa-ha! That is absolutely hilarious! My husband just turned 54 -- he's nearly ancient. Ha! It's funny how the younger generation views age. Just wait til they have another 20 something years on them; then they will realize 50's not so old after all. The hats are very cute. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteI am loving your hats. They are adorable. Your not elderly at all. I would just take the discount and run.
ReplyDeleteomg, that is too funny. LOL.
ReplyDeletelove the hats!
Oh Debi, this post sure did make me LOL! :D I'm 49, will be 50 in August. For five yrs. now I've been getting AARP stuff in the mail. When it first started coming it drove me crazy. They say it's for 50 and over, yet at 45 they were sending it to me! :p On occasion I do get asked if I'm a senior citizen. I assume it's because of my white hair. LOL
ReplyDeleteWell your not alone Debi, it seems I have been consider elder as well and have been given a senior discount on occasion, and I am only 42 so I don't know why or when the younger generation think elderly is. :) I love the little baby hats, they are darling. I just came across your blog and look forward to following and see what your up to. Stop by mine if you would like.
ReplyDeleteyep, they do that to me, too! love the muffin hats!
ReplyDeleteLOL gotta see the funny side of that one :)).. Very cute little hats , love the cherry on the top:)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day..
Thanks for the smiles! Good you can laugh about it. I have a lot of gray in my hair when I don't color it, and Tim does, too. We're only in our 30s but have been called "old" by teenagers. Tim gets AARP applications in the mail all the time! You just have to laugh...
ReplyDeleteCUTE hats! Love them!
Blessings :-)
Wait until you get close to your 60's!! Hearing aid ads and medicare plans roll n by the fistfull every mailday!!
Delete27 and been told I am too old for a night club I thought I'll check out due this band I want to see. Since when are you too old for a night club.
ReplyDelete:) One thing about blog land is that you can';t really judge much a person by his/her blog :) I really had no idea about your age and for me - you are a young crafty lady:)
ReplyDeleteI love the baby caps you made! By the way, those cupcakes can be worn by boys too:)
Very nice story and very recognizable too. Thank you for sharing the story, I had to laugh.
ReplyDeleteLove your little cupcake baby hats, they are very cute:)!
Debi,
ReplyDeleteI'm 54 and DH is 69, I've been an AARP member since I was 35 LOL Anyway it's all in the eye of the beholder so enjoy it. Cause if it causes others to elicit respect, YES. If they want to try and take advantage, wouldn't they be surprised!!YES again! It's all win win IMHO.
You actually look very lovely and if you never told us your age, I'd guess closer to 40, making Vince a cradle snatcher!!
You're very sweet to say that. Thank you. :)
DeleteThanks ladies. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my Goodness~! What a shock .. and not once but twice!? Sigh
ReplyDeleteI was about 43 when I was in FL at a hotel for a weekend and the guy behind the counter asked me if I had an AARP card. I was so pissed. lol I asked him how old he thought I was. (I started getting gray at 29 so by then I had a bunch.....but still!!!) At least you got a discount!!
