~ baby stuffs ~

I received 2 more donations of baby items in the mail last evening.  The cocoons and hats in the top picture were sent in from Kate of 'Stitches, Scraps and Sparkles in the Sun' - and the baby hats in the right side picture were sent in from Luna of 'My Crochet, Mis Tejidos'.

I finished up the preemie cocoon Thursday evening, and I think I like this one the best.  I love the pretty colors and the ribbon.

The baby hats in the left side picture were sent in from Trish - you can read about her donation in this post:  http://hooksandyarns.blogspot.com/2013/08/baby-hats-from-trish.html

I'm really excited about this adventure, and I thank you ladies from the bottom of my heart.  ♥

~ baby hats from Trish ~

Take a look at these adorable little baby hats that Trish of 'Tales from Trish' crocheted for the 'guardian grandmas'.  I received them in the mail yesterday and they're my very 1st donation.  I'm very happy.  Thank you so much Trish!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A note about the 'guardian grandmas' - if you would like to be a guardian grandma or an honorary guardian grandma, but would rather donate to your own local hospital - that would be perfectly fine.  Just let me know so I can add your name to our list of 'guardian grandmas'.  :)
~ 'the guardian grandmas' logo ~
 Ms. Luna of 'My crochet, Mis Tejidos by Luna' asked me last night if I had a logo for 'the guardian grandmas'.  I didn't at the time, but today I opened up the Paint program and started messing around.  This little picture is what I came up with.
The big heart symbolizes our heart, and the little heart symbolizes the babies heart.
I have to mention that Ms. Luna is an honorary grandma at the moment, but next month she will be a full-fledged grandma.  Her son and daughter-in-law are expecting a little girl that they've named Zoe Ann.  Congratulations Ms. Luna!!  :)
I'm going to be working on posting links of my baby patterns to 'the guardian grandmas' page in the next few days.  I'll have other links there too.
~ my sister Teri.....~
.....loved animal prints and lips motifs.  So when I saw this duct tape on clearance at Joanns, I had to buy it.  I didn't know what I would do with it, but I had to have it.
I then remembered Astri's post about her and her friends painted coffee cans -  http://appleblossomdreams.blogspot.com/2013/07/gnoi.html
My sister Laura had already saved one coffee can for me because I wanted pretty painted plant cans like Astri's, but I changed my mind about the painting and started taping.  Took me like 10 minutes at the most to do this.  Easy as pie.  Now all I have to do is get a plant to put in it.  :)
p.s.  the 'tape it' neon duct tapes were bought at the Dollar Tree.  Needless to say, they sold out very fast.  I keep checking every time I go, but I haven't seen them since.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My daughter Erica gave me a lips decal in honor of Teri.  I applied it to the inside of my windshield today.  I like it - it matches my pin stripes.  :)

~ cell phone holder ~

Made myself a cell phone cozy to help keep track of it in my purse.  I have a pocket on the inside of my purse that I keep it in, but it would always fall out and I'd have to dig around for it.  Now I can just clip it to the handle and be able to find it in a second.

Looking at my cell phone makes me think of this commercial - I think it's funny.  :)

~ preemie baby cocoons ~

These little preemie baby cocoons are so quick and easy to crochet.  The pink variegated cocoon was crocheted with Mary Maxim Baby Lolipop acrylic yarn - the color is 'candy floss'.  This yarn is so soft and was a dream to work with - no knots, no breaks.  The only thing is that Mary Maxim has it listed as a 'medium size 4' yarn and it is not.  I'd say it's a size 3 at the most.

http://www.marymaxim.com/yarn/mary-maxim-lollipop-yarn.html

The soft-white cocoon was crocheted with good ol' Red Heart Super Saver.  I love that yarn.  As soon as I soften it up in the dryer, I'll put it with the rest of the cocoons, hats and blankies that will be donated to P.G. Hospital Center.

Speaking of yarn sizes - I came across this chart by 'The Craft Yarn Council' that lists them all.  Very handy to have around.  :)

~ 'the guardian grandmas' ~

Hello ladies.  Ya'll know about the little baby blankies and cocoons that I've been crocheting and donating.  Well, I've been thinking that I'm not crocheting fast enough to be able to donate enough to really make a difference, so an idea for a group came to mind - I would name the group 'the guardian grandmas'.

What I'm asking is if you would like to join 'the guardian grandmas', all you would have to do is crochet either a preemie sized or regular baby sized item - hat, blankie, cocoon - and then send it to me to be donated to the Prince George's Hospital Center baby ward.

I will have cards made up with the group name along with the laundering directions.

Your name will be listed in the sidebar of my blog if you decide to become a member of 'the guardian grandmas'.

I've set up a page for this project - click on 'the guardian grandmas' that's right under my blog header and it will take you there.  All the information for this group will be posted there.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will answer them asap.

Thank everyone.  :)

- 2 1/2 oz. Bernat Dippity Dots in teal
- J hook

~ a giveaway gift, baby stuff and a hat ~

How cute is this little fella?

 Liz from 'Unravelling Me' hosted a giveaway to celebrate her followers and I was one of the lucky winners.  Thank you so much Liz.  'Hooty' is right at home hanging in my craft room.  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finished this blankie the night before I went to the campground.  I crocheted it with various 4-ply worsted weight yarns for the circles and the border is crocheted with Vanna's Choice in beige.  It measures 22" x 17", and the pattern is 'candy drops'.
and while at the campground I crocheted 4 preemie baby cocoons, 2 tiny hats:
and 1 baby blankie:
This blankie was crocheted with Red Heart Team Spirit in royal/white.  It measures 20" x 16" and the pattern I used is the first 6 rounds of my 'simply pretty' square.
The Red Heart Team Spirit is one of the rough yarns, but it is softening up pretty nice in the dryer.
Almost forgot - I made a hat for my sister Laura too.  It started out as a preemie baby cocoon, but it was too big.  Laura said that it would make a nice hat, so I finished it and gave it to her.
Thanks for visiting ladies - I hope you all have a great day.  :)
~ 'Knots of Love' ~
I received an email this morning from Sara Berrey in reference to 'Knots of Love' - a group that collects crocheted and knitted hats and headbands for cancer patients.
Here is what she wrote:
~~ A group of Google employees recently used "GoogleServe" Week to benefit local Newport/Mesa-based charity, Knots of Love. The charity works to warm the hearts and heads of cancer patients through hand knitted and crocheted caps and the Google group donated 101 caps toward the KOL cause.
The contribution of caps helped set a personal record for KOL of most caps donated and shipped out in one day: A total of 1,050.
Knots of Love is also in the middle of their annual Veteran's Cap Drive. The vet campaign is aimed at sending more KOL caps to Veteran's Affairs hospitals across the country. ~~
Congrats to Sarah and her group.  :)
Here is the link if you'd like to visit the 'Knots of Love' site to get more information about the group:
