~ the guardian grandmas ~

*  'The guardian grandmas' are a group of caring ladies who crochet hats, blankies and cocoons for babies.  Both preemie and regular sized baby items are accepted.

*  The baby items should be crocheted with acrylic yarns.

*  All items will have a card attached to it with the group name and the care instructions.

*  The baby items will be donated to Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland.

*  This will be an on-going project.

*  If you would like to donate and you're not a grandma, that's perfectly fine, you can be an 'honorary' grandma.  I can add an 'h g' next to your name if you'd like - just let me know.

*  If you would like to be a guardian grandma or an honorary guardian grandma, but would rather donate to your own local hospital - that would be perfectly fine.  Just let me know so I can add your name to our list of 'guardian grandmas'.

*  Email me at dlyrs@juno.com to obtain my mailing address.

  2. I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to help my local hospital. I decided to donate to St. Louis Children's, where my beautiful niece has been receiving outpatient treatment for a genetic disorder and where they kept my best friend alive until he got his new kidney (YAY!). They need all sizes of hats and blankets and seeing your campaign showed me that one person can make a huge difference, even before you started the Guardian Grandmas.

    1. Nice to meet you Ms. Tammy - I'm glad you like my blog. Thank you very much for joining the 'guardian grandmas' - it's a pleasure to have you. You can donate baby items to your own local hospital if that would be easier for you. I will add your name to the grandmas list. Have a great day. :)

  9. Hello! I knit and crochet just for babies - all for charity. I donate all the preemie clothes for my local hospitals (I live in Brazil and they need those so baad!) and although I'm just 20 years old, I was hoping if I could become an "honorary grandma"? That would be wonderful.

Many thanks in advance, have a great week :D

  11. Thank you for your efforts to help preemies. I have donated to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore through a nurse who works there. But I lost my son through a placenta primea birth and I am grateful to anyone who helps keep tiny heads warm. Bless you and your circle. Nana Hana

  12. Thank you Debi! I'm so glad you started this group. I donate preemie hats, (my son was a preemie and is now 28 years old and 6"5") to the hospital he was born at, St. Lukes in KC, Mo. I would be honored to donate in the name of your organization Guardian Grandmas. You always have the best ideas!

    1. Hi Wendy. I would love for you to join the group. Since you live in England and it probably would cost a lot of money for you to send packages to me, you can donate your baby items to your local hospital in the 'guardian grandmas' name. Thank you so much. I will add your name to our 'guardian grandmas' list. :)

Hi Debi, Thank you for a wonderful place that a rather inexperienced newbie like me can learn so much! I live in South Africa and would like to join this group as well. I will donate to the local maternity hospital in the township here, as well as to our local state hospital. I am a grandmom of one adorable 18 month old little girl and a second one on the way - hoping for a boy this time around :-) !

    1. Hi Coolerchick. No the guardian grandmas does not have a Ravelry group. It's not that big of a group to need one.
