~ my blogging friends granny square blanket ~

First, I must say that this has been alot of fun for me.  I would very much like to thank all my blogging friends that participated in my 'blogging friends granny square blanket' swap.  And they are:

* Marion of 'Marion's bunte Handarbeitswelt'
* Renee of 'Renee's Crochet'
* Cynthia of 'TwoLuLa'
* Grace Ann of 'Would You Like Yarn With That?'
* Emma of 'The Log Cabin'
* Palynsea (no blog)
* Christy of 'Crochet Happiness'
* Pat of 'Hooks and Books'
* Sarah of 'Crochet by Sarah'
* Holly Louise of 'Crafty Holly Louise'
* Sherri of 'CrochetnQuilt'
* Red of 'Red Crochets'
* Rob of 'Men Crochet 2'
* Tara of 'Little Things'
* Bev of 'One Yarn After Another'
* Stephanie of 'Simply Crochet and Other Crafts'

To see all the individual squares that were sent to me, click on this link - 'granny square swap'

Here are all the squares laid out on my craft room floor ready to be sewn together.  I started on the vertical seams first.

Then it was on to the horizontal seams.

I had to take quite a few breaks because working on the floor was very hard on my knees and my hips - this old granny was feeling the pain.  :)

I finished the sewing in the evening while watching NCIS re-runs.

Working on the border - which is 1 round of hdc followed by 1 round of sc, ch 3, skip next hdc, sc in next hdc.  I wanted something simple.

And here it is - it measures 34" x 53" - a perfect size to keep me warm while sitting on the couch.  :)

I added a '4-hearts square' to the bottom left - I thought it would be a very appropriate square for a friendship blanket.  <3

Thanks for stopping by - have a great day.  :)

~ Two on Tuesday & a granny square ~

Two things that make me smile:

*  watching a crazy robin try to get in my car.  My husband first noticed the robin a few weeks ago - he sits on the driver's side mirror for a little and then starts flapping his wings like crazy and bumps back and forth against the window.  I have no idea why he does this - maybe he sees himself in the reflection and thinks it's another bird.  It's funny.

*  knowing that our tax returns have been filed and that we will be receiving a refund - (yay!)

~~~~~~~~~~~
Received another granny square in the mail yesterday to add to my 'blogging friends granny square blanket' - this one came from Sarah of 'Crochet by Sarah'.  This square will fit in perfectly Sarah - thanks very much.  And thank you for the crocheted rose too - I love it.  :)
~ granny squares & some 'giggles' fun
Received another granny square package in the mail yesterday - this time from Tara of 'little things'.  Along with the granny squares, she also sent me a very nice coffee cup sleeve - this will be good to keep in my purse for those coffee stops when I'm out running errands.  Thank you very much Tara.  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~

Pat of 'Hooks and Books' is hosting some 'giggles fun'.  She made herself a dishcloth with this bright and colorful giggles yarn and when she was finished, she sent me a skein to crochet a 6" square.  I, in turn, will then choose one person to send what is left of the yarn to crochet or knit a 6" square.  If there is enough yarn left over after you make your square, then you will pass it along.  If you would like to join in the giggles fun, please read Pat's original post, and then leave a comment on this post only and I will draw out one lucky name on Wednesday morning, April 18th.

I crocheted a 6" granny square with 1 strand of white baby yarn held together with 1 strand of the giggles yarn.  I used a 'J' hook.  I'll admit, it was a little tricky, but the end result is so soft and squishy.  I think it will be ideal for a face washcloth.

Thanks for stopping by - have a good evening.  :)

~ NCIS, a granny square & a thread holder ~

I am so sad/mad - they are totally screwing up my NCIS.  The story format is changing to all kinds of conspiracy crap - government conspiracy, terrorist conspiracy, drug cartel conspiracy.  I like the way it used to be - a regular (military) person gets off'd by a regular killer.  Gibbs, Tony, Ziva and McGee then go and find the guy with alot of bantering back and forth and with a little bit of humor thrown in.

They've also brought in a girlfriend for the Gibbs character that's being played by Jamie Lee Curtis.  It totally grosses me out when they kiss - they look like twin brother and sister - and we all know that that just ain't right.  Whoever was in charge of casting that part seriously screwed up.

Please NCIS people - put my show back the way it was.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday I received this granny square from Stephanie of 'Simply Crochet and Other Crafts'.  It came packaged in this cute little zippered pouch - I think I will use it in my carry around crochet bag to hold all the little what-nots.  Thank you very much Stephanie.  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the thread holder that Vince and I crafted.  It took us less than half an hour to make it - and that includes the drying time for the paint wash.  After I took this picture, I ended up gluing a rose button to the long point section - it just looked too bare.

This is what we did:

- went out to the shed to look around for a piece of wood.  I was thinking a block of wood, but I saw a stack of these and figured it would work just as well.  (And I just have to say that moving around in Vince's shed was not an easy thing to do - he has his motorcycle and the golfcart in there, and lots of stuff around on the floor.)

- Vince drilled a pilot hole for the large nail.

- I painted the wood with a paint wash and let it dry.

- I cut out a piece of plastic canvas for a liner to keep the threads protected while it turns.

- I cleaned a 7" long nail (bought at Lowe's a while back) and then hammered it into the wood about an inch deep.  (I used a regular household cleaner to clean the nail, but I'm thinking that I should of soaked it in vinegar to make it shiney)

And there you have it - a really quick & easy thread holder.

Thanks for stopping by - have a great day.  :)

~ poncho update, granny squares & a rectangle ~

Here's the update on my poncho - it's about halfway done and I'm not too sure about it.  Missy is very kindly modeling it for me - she's roughly about my size (she's wearing my dress), so I can pretty much tell how many more rows I have to go.  Hopefully I'll like it when it's done.

p.s.  I'm thinking of changing her name to Manny Kin.  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~
I received these granny squares in the mail today from Renee of 'Renee's Crochet'.  The blue, green and yellow are so pretty together.  Thanks again Renee.  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~

Thinking about crocheting a baby blankie with these rectangles.  Not sure yet.

~ stuff ~

Ventered out today to make a baby blankie delivery to the Bowie/Crofton Pregnancy Center.  I met Karen there today - she was very nice.  Sorry I have no pictures - I was so nervous, I forgot to take any.  I don't know why I get nervous - everyone is always so nice - it's just that I always have this feeling in the back of my mind that they're going to say "oh good Lord - no thanks".  Now I know that that will never happen, but I just can't shake that feeling when I'm walking in the door.

Isn't there a song like that?  Oh no - that's 'Hooked on a Feeling' - never mind.  (are you singing that song now?)  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~
I've finished putting the off-white border on all the granny squares that I have received so far.  I laid them out on the floor to see what they all will look like together.  They're perfect.  Thanks to everyone that sent me a granny square.  :)
I had to stand on my desk to get this picture, so before I climbed up there I asked God to watch over me so I wouldn't fall.  Vince and Bobby went to the campground and I really didn't want to lay on the floor until they come back home tomorrow.  Yes, Bobby got to go this time - I'll go next time.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Does anyone have any dog-walking tips?  I would like to walk Tex & Ladybug by myself, but they seem to walk me most of the time.  They are always pulling and they really don't listen too well when I tell them to slow down.  Tex weighs about 58 lbs. and Ladybug weighs about 20 lbs.  Look at them - they're my bad dogs.  :)

Thanks for dropping by - have a great day.  :)

~ granny squares & a giveaway ~

I received another granny square package in the mail yesterday.  These ones came from Pat of 'Hooks and Books'.  Pretty colors Pat - thank you very much.  :)

~~~~~~~~
I mailed out everyone's granny squares today - so to Rob, Criossa, Renee, Tara, Bev, Sarah, Pat and Stephanie - be on the lookout for a small package.  Thanks to everyone who joined in this granny swap with me.  :)
~~~~~~~~

Now for the giveaway.  If you would like a chance to win one of these prizes - be a follower of my blog and leave me a comment on this post only.  Let me know if you prefer the baby crochet book or the plastic canvas holiday book.  I will pick the winners names out of my super large coffee mug on Sunday, Mar. 25th, 9:00 a.m. Eastern time.

The 1st prize is a hardcover copy of 'Oh Baby! Crochet'.  This book is in very, very good condition.  I looked through it once and that was about it.  You can see more of this book here:  http://www.amazon.com/Oh-Baby-Crochet-Glenda-Chamberlain/dp/1592172571#_

The 2nd prize is a hardcover copy of 'Happy Holidays in Plastic Canvas'.  I bought this book a couple of weeks ago from The Dollar Tree.  It is not in perfect condition - it has a scrape on the back cover and some tears and scrapes to the paper where the wire spiral is.  Overall though - it's in very good condition.  You can see more of this book here:  http://www.e-patternscentral.com/detail.html?prod_id=4508&cat_id=5&classification_id=K

Also included in the 2nd prize is the 'Threadbared' book I posted about here:  http://hooksandyarns.blogspot.com/2011/12/threadbared.html.  It's good for a laugh - and then you can pass it on if you'd like.

~ squares from Bev & Sharon's giveaway ~

The mailman stopped at my house yesterday and brought me a package - these granny squares from Bev of 'One Yarn After Another'.  They're very pretty and I've been sitting here trying to pick my favorite one but I can't do it.  I love all three.  Bev also sent me the cutest little button which was attached to my yarn bag shortly after opening the package.  Thank you so much Bev.

I'm really enjoying these granny swaps - a great big "THANK YOU" to all my blogging friends who have joined in with me.  :)

Sharon of 'Sharon's Eclectic Retreat' is going to have a giveaway once she gets to 100 followers.  If you like vintage patterns, or if you like slippers, or if you like both - hop on over to read her post about it and to start following.  :)

~ granny squares & tulip bowls~

Today I received in the mail, granny squares from Cynthia of 'TwoLuLa'.  It's the 3 on the bottom.  Pretty work Cynthia - thank you very much.  As you can see, I'm slowly but surely working on all the squares that I have received so far.  I'm only adding a sc border and then I will whipstitch them together.  Nothing fancy - I'm going to let the pretty squares do all the talking.  :)

~~~~~
I went over to my Mom's for a visit today and she gave me these Fire-King tulip bowls.  My Mom received these bowls at her bridal shower 55 years ago.  There used to be 4 of them, but over the years the 2 smaller ones were broken and these 2 are showing their age.  I still love them though.  :)
~ granny square from Tara ~
Received my granny square from Tara of 'little things' yesterday along with some chocolatey treats.  I ate some of the 'coffee crisp' bar after dinner - it was good.  At first I thought it would taste like coffee but it didn't - I guess they call it coffee crisp so you can eat it with your coffee - how perfect is that?  Coffee and chocolate - 2 of my favorite things.  Thank you very much Tara.  :)
~ a square, a flower, 'Spring Meadows' and T on T ~
I received another granny square in the mail yesterday for my granny square swap.  It's from Sarah of 'Crochet by Sarah'.  Love the bright colors.  And as you can see, she also sent me a cute little Valentine's heart - Thanks Sarah!  :)
~~~~~

Sharon of 'Sharon's Eclectic Retreat' has posted her pattern for a little flower to embellish her crocheted slippers.  It's very cute and I can imagine lots of other things to embellish with it - barrettes, headbands, small purse, the corners of a baby blanket, and so on.

~~~~~
Finished weaving in the ends on baby blankie #16b last night - what a pain in the rear.  I crocheted this blankie with Loops 'n Threads Impeccable yarn - the colors are white,  kelly green, soft fern, - and a blue I already had in my stash.  It measures 25" x 29".
~ new squares from Renee ~
Yesterday I received granny squares from Renee of 'Renee's Crochet' for my granny square swap.  They're pretty matching squares of green, blue and yellow.  Thank you very much Renee.
I might play around today with all the squares that have been sent to me and see how many more I would need.  At first I was thinking I would like to make a very large blanket, but now I'm leaning more to a medium sized blanket.  I'll let ya'll know.  :)
~ more granny squares ~
I received granny squares yesterday from pattas of 'Hooks and Books', and from Emma of 'The Log Cabin'.
Pat also sent a hat with Tasmania embroidered on it - my husband loves it.  He says it's cool - he wants to live in Tasmania now.  I don't think so.  But Pat - in the future, if you ever see a 51 year old handsome man riding a Kawasaki KLR just wandering around looking at the scenery - send him back home please.  :)
Along with the pretty yellows square - Emma sent along a granny triangle bunting.  I have it hanging on the middle part of the window in my craft room and it's a perfect fit.  It's very pretty Emma - thank you very much.  :)
~ my stupid computer and new squares ~
Our big computer bit the dust this morning so I am working on my little pink computer.  Everything is on the big computer - pictures, PDF's, everything - so it will take me a while to get this little computer loaded up (I don't even know if it will be able to handle everything).
In reference to my 'patterns for sale' button - I had to take it down since the pattern PDF's are on the big computer.  I'm going to try to get the PDF's on this little computer within the next few days.
~~~~~

I received 2 squares in the mail yesterday - 1 from Holly Louise of 'Crafty Holly Louise' and 1 from Red of 'Red Crochets'.  The square I received from Holly Louise is a regular granny crocheted with pretty pink and white alternating round by round.  Red's square is pretty too - it's a closed granny with 1 round lavender, 1 round light blue, followed by 2 rounds of purple.  Thank you both very much. :)

Eta:  finally able to get pictures uploaded to my little computer.

Thank you both very much ladies.  :)

~ a granny square from Marion and blog comments~

I received my granny square from Marion yesterday - it came all the way from Germany.  The colors are great - they are the Washington Redskins colors.  Marion also sent me some handcrafted wood buttons that she made.  Isn't that cool?  Thanks so much Marion.  :)

There are quite a few blogs that I like to visit, and lately I've been unable to leave comments on some of them.  I guess Blogger is still not finished with all their 'upgrades'.  Well anyway - just wanted to let everyone know.  Are any of you having problems leaving comments?

~ a granny from Rob, bracelets and other stuff ~

I've received my 1st granny square for the 2nd granny square swap from Rob.  He also sent me a very cute 'Australia' key chain.  Thank you so much Rob.  :)

~~~~~
I went to the Dollar Tree and bought 5 packs of the plastic heart bracelets that I have used for my 'Valentine's table mats' and for my 'Sweetheart' patterns. That is a total of 50 bracelets. If anyone would like me to send you one (or two) - just let me know. :)
~~~~~

Once again, my 'blogs I follow' list keeps getting messed up.  I have to try to keep track and re-follow some blogs when they have disappeared off of my list.  Very irritating.

~~~~~
My test selling here on my blog is not going so well, so I have taken your advice about selling on Ravelry.  I'll let ya'll know how that goes.
