V-st baby cocoon


Materials:
- 6 oz. off white Caron Simply Soft
- 1 and 1/4 oz. light blue Caron Simply Soft
- 1 and 1/4 oz. medium blue Caron Simply Soft
- L hook

Size: 11" x 15"

Notes:
- I crochet tight so you may need to adjust the size of your hook.
- Ch 2 at beginning of Rnds. 1 - 4 do not count as a stitch.
- beg V-st: (ch 4, dc)
- V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc)

Directions:
Rnd 1: With 2 strands of off white held together, ch 3, 13 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with a sl st to 1st dc.  (13 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around. Join as before.  (26 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in 1st dc, dc in next dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.  (48 dc)

Rnd 5: Beg V-st in 1st dc, skip next dc. *V-st in next dc, skip next dc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beg V-st.  (24 v-sts)

Rnds 6 - 17: Sl st in next ch, beg V-st. V-st in each V-st around. Join as before. At end of Rnd 17, end off.

Rnd 18: Working with 1 strand of light blue and 1 strand of medium blue held together, join with a sl st in ch 1 sp of 1st V-st. Beg V-st in same sp. V-st in each V-st around. Join as before.

Rnds 19 - 23: Sl st in next ch, beg V-st. V-st in each V-st around. Join as before.

Rnd 24: Ch 1, sc in same ch. Sc in each ch sp and dc around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. End off.

    i just started this.. it seems a little small to me... how would i make it wider??

    How far have you got? When you crochet the V-st rounds, they will go out a little more. Or - you can add an extra round of increases if you'd like.

    hi debi.. well i wound up ripping it out because apparently i skipped a row.. but then i wanted to make it bigger anyway so i did 20 DC and then i wound up with the 40 DC in the next row.. but that didn't seem to work either to make it bigger.. its just a floppy circle and not really forming correctly.. so i am going to go back and do the original again and use a bigger hook... have you put a baby in one of these before? was it small? my friend at work just did this pattern and hers is gorgeous.. its lavendar with white around the top and she put flowers on it.. beautiful! this is my first time doing one of these and i just crochet basic blankets nothing real fancy so this is stepping out a little for me.. but it seems real simple.

    Sorry you had to rip your work out but I'm glad you're going to try again. I haven't actually put a baby in this - I just estimated the size.

    To make the cocoon bigger, follow my pattern for the first 4 rounds then for the next round do (2 dc, dc in next 3 dc) all the way around. Then follow the rest of my pattern starting with Rnd 5.

    hmmmm.. i will have to try that.. however i did try it again addiing the row i missed.. and i did use two strands of yarn this time and it seems to be MUCH wider now... my co-worker only did one strand of yarn however and her's came out a decent size though. mine looks so much better now.. i will have to let her know your suggestion though. thank you so much! now i will have to show you a picture of my finished product when its done! :-) take care!

    Debi help! i must be doing something wrong with the v-stiches because i did the 6th row and it is still very flat, no curving at all :'(
    i must be adding extra stiches but i don't know where :(

    Hi Kawtar - at the end of Rnd 5 you should have 26 V-sts. Do not add any chs between. The cocoon should be starting to take shape around the 6th - 7th round. I could probably tell better if I could see a picture of what you have so far. Do you have a blog?

    Hi Debi, thanks for your quick response.
    i don't have a blog but i think i figured out what was going on. i counted the stiches and i have 32 v-st instead of 26 but i think i got why, i added an extra row while increasing.
    now i just started row 9 and it is finally getting into shape. i'll keep you tuned :)

    Thank you so much for this pattern. I made this for my niece and mommy and daughter just loved it. At first the size seemed small but when we put the baby in it, it was just right. Starting another one today, this will be my fourth one I've made.. again thank you!!

    Ive been searching everywhere for a nice pattern using this stitch. and Just Now happened to stumble upon this I love it. Everytime i try to do it on my own is seems to come out Way too big. Just wanted to say thank you for posting it.
