*Dc in next 3 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch2 loop, dc in next 3 dc,  skip next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Repeat the last round increasing the number of dc's on the sides.

I have wracked my brain trying to come up with an easier way to explain this, and I can only come up with this:

Keep in mind that at the beginning of each Rnd, the ch 3 counts as a dc.

Rnd 6: dc in 5 dc's, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 5 dc's

Rnd 7: dc in 6 dc's, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 6 dc's

And so on.  The number of dc's will increase by one on each Rnd.

10 or 11 Rnds make a nice size lovey.

~ child's braided headband ~

The plastic circle headbands were purchased from the Dollar Tree.  They come in a pack of 3 - clear, brown, and black.

Cut 18 (eighteen) 7 foot long lengths of white 4-ply worsted weight acrylic yarn.  I used Red Heart Super Saver.

Take 3 strands and loop it in the middle.
Attach to 3rd circle from the end with a larkshead knot.
Attach 3 strands to the 2nd circle.
Attach 6 strands to the end circle.
Flip headband and attach 3 strands to the other side of the 2nd circle.
Attach 3 strands to the other side of the 3rd circle.

Attach 1 strand with a sc to the 4th circle, sc in same circle.
Work 2 sc in each circle across to the end circle.
Work 4 sc in last circle.

Working around the opposite side, work 2 sc in each circle until the 4th circle from the end.

Weave in the ends.
Braid the 3 sections.

Fold the braid over the headband and either sew or glue down.

Decorate as desired.
