Round ripple lovey

Materials:
* 4-ply worsted weight yarn
* J hook
* hair elastic tie

Note:
* I crochet tight so you may need to adjust the size of your hook

Sc around hair tie 32 times.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Ch 1, sc in same stitch.  Ch 3, *skip next sc, sc in next sc, ch 3.  Repeat from * around.

Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  Sl st in 1st ch3 loop.

(Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch3 loop.

*Skip next ch3 loop, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next loop.  Repeat from * around.

 Join with a sl to to top ch of beginning ch 3.

Sl st in next dc, ch 3.  Dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2 space.  Dc in next 2 dc.

Skip next 2 dc.  Dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the ch2 space  Dc in the next 2 dc.

Repeat all the way around.

Join as before.

Sl st in next dc.  Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch2 loop, dc in next 3 dc.  Skip next 2 dc.

*Dc in next 3 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch2 loop, dc in next 3 dc,  skip next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Repeat the last round increasing the number of dc's on the sides.

I have wracked my brain trying to come up with an easier way to explain this, and I can only come up with this:

Keep in mind that at the beginning of each Rnd, the ch 3 counts as a dc.

Rnd 6: dc in 5 dc's, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 5 dc's

Rnd 7: dc in 6 dc's, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 6 dc's

And so on.  The number of dc's will increase by one on each Rnd.

10 or 11 Rnds make a nice size lovey.
