~ daffodil square for SIBOL ~ (pattern added)

A couple days ago I received an email from Sue of 'SIBOL' - she wanted to know if I could come up with a daffodil square for a special blanket that she wanted to make.  Of course, I said that I would see what I could come up with.  Well, this is it - I hope ya'll like it.

Luna of 'My Crochet, Mis Tejidos' has also designed a beautiful daffodil square for SIBOL.  Click on her name and you will be taken to her blog post where she shares her pattern.  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Materials:
- 4-ply worsted weight acrylic
   - yellow and soft white
- J hook
Size:  6" square
Notes:
- I crochet tight so you may need to adjust the size of your crochet hook
- the hdc has 3 loops = the front loop, the back loop and the side loop.  All 3 loops will be used for this square
- leave a long tail at the tips of the flower petals and do not weave them in until the end.  They will be used to tack down the tips.
Directions:
For the flower middle:
Rnd 1:  With yellow ch 2, 12 hdc in the 2nd ch from hook.  Join with a sl st to the front loop of the 1st hdc.  (12 hdc)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in the front loop of each hdc around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  (12 sc)
Rnds 3 & 4:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around.  Join as before.
Rnd 5:  Ch 1, sc in the same sc as joining st, ch 2.  *sc in the next sc, ch 2.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.  End off.
For 1st petal:
Row 1:  Join yellow with a sl st in any back loop of a hdc on Rnd 1, ch 3, dc in next 2 back loops, ch 3, turn.
Row 2:  Dc in next dc, dc in top ch of ch 3, ch 2, turn.
Row 3:  Dc next dc and ch 3 together.  End off leaving a long tail.
For next 5 petals:
Row 1:  Join yellow with a sl st in same back loop as the last dc of the previous petal on Rnd 1.
Rows 2 & 3:  Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of 1st petal.
For granny base:
Rnd 1:  Join soft white with a sl st in any side loop, (ch 3, dc) in same side loop.  2 dc in each side loop around.  Join with a sl st to top ch of beginning ch 3.  (24 sts)
Rnd 2:  (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same dc as joining st, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc.  *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next dc, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc.  Repeat from * 2 more times.  Join as before.
Rnd 3:  Sl st over to corner ch-2 space, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same corner ch-2 space, ch 1.  {3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 space} 2 times.  *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 space, ch 1.  {3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 space} 2 times.  Repeat from * 2 more times.  Join as before.
Rnd 4:  Sl st over to corner ch-2 space, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same corner ch-2 space, ch 1.  {3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 space} 3 times.  *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 space, ch 1.  {3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 space} 3 times.  Repeat from * 2 more times.  Join as before.
Rnd 5:  Ch 1, sc in same st as joining st, sc in each dc and ch-1 space around with (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner ch-2 space.  End off.
