~ My most favorite hook of all ~

Back in May of 2008, my grandson William (who was almost 9 yrs. old at the time) stayed the night with us.  I was crafting crochet hooks and he decided that he wanted to make me a present.  He watched me for a little bit - picked out the hook along with the blue, green and pearl colors of Sculpey clay and created this masterpiece.  Amazing work if you ask me - William had never worked with clay before.  I will always treasure this hook.  :)

~ 4 more baby blankies - 3b thru 6b ~

These are the quick and easy blankies.  I bought 2 fleece remnants from Joann Fabrics last week - each remnant was around $5.00 - I cut them in half and then fringed the edges.  4 blankies for around $10.00 - not too bad.  :)

~ a few things ~

* I've changed my blog name back to the original name.  I'm one of those people that has to have things in order and it has been bugging me that my blog name did not match my blog address.

* Has anyone had problems with blogs disappearing off of your blog roll?  I've had quite a few disappear and I've had to re-follow.

* I crocheted one of Barbara's pretty 'Bavarian popcorn flowers'.  It's so cute.  You can find the pattern on her blog 'Made in K-town'.  I crocheted my flower with RHSS and a J hook - it measures 4 1/2" across.  I'm using it as a coaster.

* I finished baby blankie #2b.  I'm still sitting on the fence about this one.  I try to think of different shapes and stuff and they look nice when I'm picturing it in my head, but when I'm finished with it I'm not too sure I like it.  I think I'll like it after I look at it a couple hundred times.  :)

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

Oh my God - we had an earthquake!!  In my almost 50 years of life living in Bowie, Maryland - I have never experienced an earthquake.  The News is saying it originated in Virginia at 1:51 pm - it was a 5.8 magnitude earthquake .

I was standing in the dining room reaching for my coffee mug when I noticed that it was shaking a little - then everything (house included) started to shake a little - and then everything started shaking ALOT.  Tex & Ladybug ran by me headed for the living room - I don't know where they thought they were going.  I just stood there looking around thinking "what the hell is going on?".  When I realized it was an earthquake, I couldn't believe it.  I went out the back door looking for Bobby - he was outside cutting the grass - and I saw that all the neighbors were coming out looking around - not believing what had just happened.  After seeing that the neighbors were all ok, I came back in the house and made a couple phone calls - Vince, Mom, sisters, daughter - everyone's fine.  Very good.

We are all ok here - just a little incredulous that this happened.  :)

eta:  the way the earthquake felt to me is comparable to a freight train rolling up our driveway.

~ It's Blogday ~

Today's blog I'd like to highlight is Marie Anne's 'Every Day Crochet' - grab some yarn and join the rest of us hookers.  Marie Anne's blog is a nice place to visit.  She has free crochet patterns, free knitting patterns, tips and tutorials.  She's also the hostess for 'Work-in-progress Wednesday'.  Right now, she's testing out a new round ripple pattern and they're coming out quite nice (you know I love those round ripples).  When you get a chance, hop on over and say hello.  :)

~ 2nd delivery ~

My husband and I drove to Prince George's Hospital Center this afternoon to drop off the other 10 blankies at the NICU center.  I was again, a little nervous.  I shouldn't of been - Ms. Abla was so very nice - she must of thanked me at least 10 times.  She told me that the parents of the little babies will appreciate the kindness.  That made me smile.  She took us back to the NICU and thank goodness, I only saw 2 little babies in there.  I will include them in my prayers tonight.

I couldn't take a picture inside, so I took a couple outside.  That's my Vince and of course my PT Cruiser (see my pink pin-stripes?)  We drove up to the top of the parking garage so we can look at the view.   :)

~ baby blankie # 1b ~

Finished this baby blankie just a few minutes ago.  I got the inspiration from the Crochet World Afghans! magazine that Neicee sent me.  The pattern is called 'Baby Popcorns & Squares'.  I had some hexagons on hand already made so I thought that I could use those instead of the squares and then work the rest of the pattern.  Only problem was my stitch counts were off - I couldn't use the popcorns.  And then I thought (I shouldn't think too much) that I could add more hexagons to the bottom, but I don't like it.  In my head it looked better.  I hate when that happens.  Oh well.  I'm sure there's a little baby out there somewhere that might like it.  :)

~ It's Blogday (well, yesterday was) ~

Sorry I didn't post this yesterday - no excuses - I just simply forgot.

~~~
The cute blog I'd like to highlight for Blogday is a relatively new one to me.  I was blog-hopping one morning and happened to hop into "Crocheting the Day Away" - with some knitting, coffee, and some other fun crafts thrown in...   Right away I was intrigued.  I love all the pretty colors that she uses and her projects are always so nice.  When I look at her pictures I always think to myself "I want to make one of those".  She also has the most adorable little model - makes me wish my little girl (almost 29 now) was still little.
When you get a chance, hop on over for a visit - don't forget to say "Hi".  :)
~ 1st delivery ~
I delivered 10 baby blankies to the Bowie/Crofton Pregnancy Clinic this morning.  I was so nervous.  I had called before I left to ask if they would accept them (they said yes), but I still had thoughts of them turning me away saying 'thanks, but no thanks' going thru my head on the drive there.  They were so nice and very appreciative.  Sheryl is the lady in the picture and it would of been a better picture if I had of thought to take the blankies out of the bag.  :)
(I blacked out my blog name and email address on the little cards - I prefer it to be anonymous.)
The other 10 blankies will be delivered to Prince George's Hospital on Friday.  I called and asked permission and the lady I talked to on the phone said 'Sure, we'll take them'.  I'll let ya'll know how that visit goes.
~ meet Missy ~
My sister Teri (she's the best) called and said she had a surprise for me.  And here she is - I've named her Missy:
Is this cool, or what?  She's going to help me out when I need someone to model hats, scarves, shawls, etc.
She is a little scary though - I have to get used to walking in my crochet room and seeing her there.  She's anatomically correct on the top, so she always has to be dressed - can't have my grandsons seeing little plastic boobies.  :)
~ found it ~
Remember baby blankie #19?  A few of ya'll wanted to know what yarn I used but I didn't know - I had bought the mill-end bag of yarn from AC Moore so there was no brand name or color name - just that it was acrylic.  Well, I went to Hobby Lobby today and I was looking at all the 'I Love This Yarn!' and I saw it - it's called 'gelato stripes'.  Here it is:
~ thanks so much... ~
...to Kathryn, aka Crochet Concupiscense, for taking time out of her day to send me an invite to Pinterest.  As it turns out, I won't be able to use Pinterest because I'm not a member of Facebook or Twitter.  I used to have Facebook but I found that it just isn't for me.  I don't even know about Twitter - do you do that on your phone?  Oh well.
Thanks again Kathryn - that was very sweet of you.  :)
~ giant granny crochet-a-long finished ~
* A couple things first - I have added a print icon at the bottom of my posts.  When you want to print out a post, just click on 'printable version'.  I thought that that would be easy if you ever want to print out a pattern.  Thanks to LizzieK8 and Heather for pointing me to the Joliprint site.  :)
* A question about Pinterest - how long does it take to get an invite?  I signed up about 2 weeks ago and still have not got an email from it.
Now for my giant granny:
It looks nice just sitting there, but I have to tell you that it leans to the left.  Like the 'Leaning Tower of Pisa'.  I didn't really notice until I had about 1/2 the side stripes done.  Adding the sc border helped it straighten up a little.  If I ever do this kind of granny again I will make sure that I turn my work after each stripe.
The yarns I used are the usual various brands - all acrylic - and it measures 36" x 56".  :)
P.S.  The bike belongs to my Vince.  It's a Kawasaki KLR650 - combination dirt/road bike - he can ride that thing anywhere.
~ Yay! a surprise for me ~
The mailman brought me a surprise today from a special angel.  I am so happy right now.  If you could see my face, you'd probably laugh - I have the biggest grin.  :)
Neicee from 'Insomniac with a Hook' sent me a huge box with lots of crochet-y goodness.  2 skeins of Pound of Love yarn, the 2012 Crochet calendar, Crochet World Afghans! magazine, Maggie's Crochet Holiday Afghans and the most perfect bag to carry my crochet projects around in.
I'm saving the magazines and the calendar to look thru tonight - I'm sure I will find a few patterns in there for my next baby blankies.
Thanks again so much for your kindness Neicee - I do believe in angels.  :)
~ baby blankie #20 ~
I finished my straight up granny baby blankie last night but it's really a side to side granny.  I crocheted it with Red Heart Stripes 'sonoma' and I used Red Heart Super Saver in 'warm brown' for the border.  Neicee suggested I use the granny stitch for the border, so I did 2 rounds of that and 1 round of sc.  Thanks for the idea Neicee.  This little blankie measures 24" x 29".  :)
Since I now have 20 baby blankies, I think it's time to take them to the hospital.  I'm thinking next Monday or Tuesday.  I hope what happened to 'The Gingerbread Lady' doesn't happen to me - that would really suck.
~ It's Blogday ~
Today's Blogday feature is 'Gramma Rita's Crochet Etc'.  Rita crochets some of the most beautiful doilies I've seen.  I want every one I see.  She also crochets pretty afghans and ami's for her grandchildren.  Her granddaughter has quite the kitchen set up - food included - thanks to Gramma.  And of course, her babies are kept very warm with little blankies.  So whether you enjoy thread crochet or yarn crochet, you'll enjoy reading Rita's blog.  :)
~ an idea...~
...for the flowers I crocheted a few days ago.  Remember 'LeeAnn's Lovables' little flowers?  I crocheted 3 of them and then didn't know what to do with them.  I thought of this last night - take the knob off of your dresser drawer- insert it thru the flower and then put it back on the dresser drawer.  Now I just need to crochet 2 more.  This little dresser is in my crochet room so I'm able to get away with it, but I think it would be really cute for a little girl's room.  :)
~ straight up granny ~
After I finished my granny ripple bag, I wanted to start another baby blankie.  I wanted to do a granny stitch, so I went and got my Jan Eaton book "200 Crochet Blocks" and found her 'granny stripes' pattern.  I love Jan Eaton's patterns, but the edges weren't working for me, so I figured a different way.  Also - I'm not working stripes, so I decided to call this baby blankie 'straight up granny'.  I hope it all makes sense.  If you have any questions let me know.  :)
**Please note that I am not claiming this pattern as my own - it belongs to Jan Eaton - I only changed the way the edges are.
 Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern.
~ granny ripple bag ~
I purchased the pattern for this granny ripple bag from Carlinda on Crochetville.  The pattern was well written and easy to follow.  I crocheted my bag with Vanna's Choice 'rose mist' and an "I" hook - and it measures 12" across by 13" top to bottom.  The handles were recycled from an old bag I bought from the thrift store for $1.90.  Now I just need to get some pretty fabric to line it.  :)
~ LeeAnn's Lovables 5 petal flowers ~
I saw these cute little flowers on 'LeeAnn's Lovables' blog and crocheted a few.  I love 'em.  They're so quick and easy to crochet and they're a good size too - mine measure about 2 3/4".  Now I just have to figure out what to put them on.  :)
~ It's Blogday ~
Good morning ladies.  Today's feature for Blogday is a blog that I have mentioned a little here already.  It's Neicee's 'Insomniac with a Hook'.  She crochets, knits and quilts some of the prettiest things I've seen.  She has a good eye for color - everything goes together so well.  She's also very nice and helpful.  A little while back I mentioned that I would like to try out a certain pattern and she kindly took the time out of her busy day and emailed me the link to it.  Thanks again Neicee.  If you have some free time today - go and check out her blog with all the pretties she has created.  You'll be glad you did.  :)
