~ 'so precious' preemie baby cocoon ~


Oh my gosh - doesn't this make you want a baby?  Ok - maybe just one to babysit for a little bit.  :)

Materials:
- 4-ply worsted weight acrylic
  - small amount yellow
  - 1 1/2 oz. variegated
  - 3 oz. rose
- J hook

Size:  8" side to side  11" top to bottom

Notes:
- I crochet a little tight, so you may need to adjust the size of your crochet hook
- the ch 2 at the beginning of Rnd 1 and Rnds 7 through 26 do not count as a stitch

Directions:
Rnd 1:  With yellow ch 3 (make your 1st ch a little loose), 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook.  Join with a sl st to 1st dc.  (12 dc)

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, 2 sc in same dc as the joining st.  2 sc in each dc around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  End off.  (24 sc)

Rnd 3:  Join variegated with a sl st to 1st sc, ch 1, sc 1st sc and the next sc together, ch 3.  *sc next 2 sc together, ch 3.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc. 

Rnd 4:  Sl st into ch-3 space, ch 1, (sc, 2 dc, sc) in same ch-3 space.  (sc, 2 dc, sc) in each ch-3 space around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  End off.

Rnd 5:  Join rose with a sc in 1st dc of any 'sc, 2 dc, sc' group, sc in next dc, ch 3.  *sc in each of next 2 dc's, ch 3.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 6:  Ch 1, sc in same sc as the joining st, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 space.  *sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 space.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 7:  Ch 2, dc in same sc as the joining st.  Dc in each sc around.  Join with a sl st to 1st dc.

Rnds 8 - 26:  Ch 2, dc in same dc as the joining st.  Dc in each dc around.  Join with a sl st to 1st dc.  At end of Rnd 26, end off.

Rnd 27:  Join variegated with a sl st to any dc, sc same dc and next dc together, ch 3.  *sc next 2 dc together, ch 3.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a st st to 1st sc.  End off.

This motif is on the bottom.  I was going for a flower look, but I don't think that's what it came out looking like.  Kind of reminds me of the sun. 


This one is for the little girls, so I'm going to work on one for the little boys today.  :)

  1. I go over to my youngest daughter when I am in need of a baby fix. I know why God made us to have children while we were young..so we can enjoy the grandkids...your cocoon isn't that a funny word, looks wonderful.
