~ 'blue skies' preemie baby cocoon


Materials:
- 3 oz. 4-ply worsted weight acrylic
- J hook

Size:  8" x 11 1/2"

Notes:
- I crochet a little tight, so you may need to adjust the size of your crochet hook
- the ch 2 at the beginning of Rnds. 1 - 5 does not count as a st

Directions:
Rnd 1:  Ch 3 (make your 1st ch a little loose), work 12 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook.  Join with a sl st to 1st dc.  (12 dc)

Rnd 2:  Ch 2, 2 dc in same dc as the joining st.  2 dc in each dc around.  Join as before.  (24 dc)

Rnd 3:  Ch 2, 2 dc in same dc as the joining st, dc in next dc.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Rnd 4:  Ch 2, 2 dc in same dc as the joining st, dc in each of next 2 dc.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Rnd 5:  Ch 2, 2 dc in same dc as the joining st, dc in each of next 3 dc.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 3 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Rnd 6:  Ch 3, 2 dc in same dc as the joining st, skip next 2 dc.  *3 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 3.

Rnds 7 - 24:  Sl st into next dc, (ch 3, 2 dc) in same dc, skip next 2 dc.  *3 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join as before.

Rnd 25:  Ch 1, sc in same st as the joining st.  Sc in each dc around.  Join with a sl st to 1st sc.  End off.

  7. Could you please send the size of baby for this cocoon? Also I addedscallop on top edge and really looked pretty with rest of pattern. Thank you for the pattern. Betty

    1. You're welcome. I'm not exactly sure the size of the baby except to say that it's for a preemi (premature) baby. I'm guessing that would be 4 pounds or less. :)
